An Alcohol Addicted Individual Registers For Rehabilitation And Gets Alcohol Detox And Treatment For His Alcoholism
Donald used to talk big to his drinking friends how he could stay employed at a full-time job and get inebriated virtually every night. Regrettably, after engaging in this party lifestyle for about four-and-a-half years, he started to manifest several alcohol related issues.
For example, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so little energy when he got up. Not only this, but almost every morning Donald had a painful hangover. Without a doubt, the mixture of his lack of get-up-and-go and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To make things worse, nearly a week ago he got his second DWI in the past eight months.
To further compound things, at work his last two performance appraisals were less than adequate. And lastly, his relationship with his girlfriend had gone downhill due to his angry outbursts, depression, lack of patience, and his financial difficulties.
Although Donald was only twenty-five years old, he honestly started to look like he was in his late forties. Sadly, this is what abusive and irresponsible drinking can do to a person. And in all candor he grasped the fact that he was experiencing the adverse effects of alcohol dependency or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to give up his life to careless and irresponsible drinking. So initially he tried to drink in moderation. Regrettably, he soon found out that he lost all control after drinking his first alcoholic beverage. Since this was a situation that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this greatly disturbed him. In fact, he began to wonder if he was exhibiting some of the stages of alcoholism.
After articulating his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible drinking with his lady friend, he eventually made up his mind to make an appointment to see his family doctor. When Donald saw his physician, he frankly stated that he has been drinking in an excessive manner, that he may be manifesting behavior that is representative of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to abstain from drinking. He said that drinking responsibly and in moderation does not work for him and as a result, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.
Donald also told his physician about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely influencing his relationship with his lady friend. His healthcare practitioner referred Donald to Doctor Plaff, a drug and alcohol addiction specialist, who motivated Donald to enter into a drug and alcohol treatment facility as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehabilitation. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical attention for his depression at this treatment center.
After five months of intensive rehab, Donald left the residential rehabilitation center and continued his recovery via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and via outpatient therapy. Motivated to change his life in a more productive manner, Donald joined a fitness center and started working out three or four times per week. Within nine months Donald was a new person. He was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he was not depressed anymore, and most significant of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also did not resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more loving individual in his relationship with his lady friend. In brief, stopping drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
